The Labor Day weekend has arrived, and for many of us it is the symbolic end of the Summer and the BBQ season. Whether you are heading to the Taste of Polonia (annual Polish festival in Chicago with Polish food and entertainment), taking the family to the great outdoors, or just BBQ’ing in the backyard with family and friends, remember that you need to complete the final step of the 4 step lawn care plan (EMIL) in order to maintain a greener lawn.
As you remember, we started the road to greener lawn back in April when I wrote about Scotts® Step 1, here. The purpose of the first application was to prevent crabgrass during the seeding in the Spring. During the Memorial Day weekend, I described the Scotts® Step 2 and its benefits, here. The second application feeds and strengthens your lawn while killing weeds completely. When we celebrated the 4th of July, it was time to start the second half of our lawn treatment with Scotts® Step 3, here. The purpose of the third application was to feed and strengthen your lawn against heat and drought, and kill and protect the grass against various insects.

The final application is Scotts® Step 4, which should be applied on or after the Labor Day weekend. The main purpose of Step 4 is to help repair summer damage to lawns, and to protect your lawn over the Winter season by building a foundation for long-lasting health. Step 4 can be applied to wet and dry lawn on a calm day. You don’t need to water the lawn after applying this fertilizer, but watering the lawn will accelerate the time for your grass to get greener. In order to get the best results, we recommend that you use this fertilizer according to the directions and avoid using it on flowers, ornamentals, and mulch.
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend.
