Here in Chicago, the second week of April, it is starting to look more like spring especially in our garden center located at 5212 W. Belmont Ave. This location is where you will find everything that you need to create, improve, and maintain your home garden. We currently have the following trees ready for planting; Early Apple, Jonathan Apple, Georgia Peach, Belle of Georgia Peach, Hale Peach, Red Have Peach, Bing Cherry, Tartarian Cherry, North Star Cherry, Montmorercy Cherry, White Birch, Split White Birch, Keiffer Pear, Santa Rose Plum, Methley Plum, Bruce Plum, and Pussy Willow. A lot of you have been asking whether these trees are ready to be planted now, and the answer is , yes.

Once the new trees has been planted, you need ensure that you protect them from getting sick. We recommend that you use Dormant Oil, which needs to sprayed onto the tree before any baby leaves begin to appear. The next time you need to use the Dormant Oil is after the baby leaves are fully grown that way you will not damage the young leaves. The oil kills larva and plant lice, which will prevent you newly planted tree from full development and eventually will kill the tree.

In addition to the trees, our Dom itp Garden Center has a wide selection of raspberry, blueberry, currant (porzeczka), gooseberry (agrest), and grape plants.

We invite you to our Dom itp Garden Center store as well as our other Dom itp stores, which have some plants available. We will also deliver the trees and fruit plants to these stores per your request. For more information please call us at (773) 545 - 5618 or email us at info at domitp dot com.

The arrival of spring is usually associated with the start of gardening and lawn maintenance season. Our Dom itp store located at 5212 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago is the garden center for your home’s garden and lawn needs. At this time, our customers are asking what they need to do to get their lawns greener and leaner.

Since we opened our doors in 1990, Dom itp - Garden and Hardware Center, has been recommending to our clients a lawn treatment program by Scotts®, which consists of 4 applications. Each application is designed for a specific period of treating your lawn to make it greener and healthier.

In order to remember when to apply each Scotts® application to your lawn, Janek, Dom itp’s owner, introduced to our clients the acronym known as EMIL.

Each letter represents a holiday during which each of the 4 applications by Scotts® needs to be applied to your lawn to improve the health and look of your grass.

Step 1 - Apply at Easter
“Prevents crabgrass when seeding. Use instead of Step 1 as part of Scotts® 4-Step Annual Program when seeding in the spring.”

Step 2 - Apply at Memorial Day
“Kills Weeds completely. Feeds and strengthens lawn.”

Step 3 - Apply at Independence Day
“Feeds and strengthens against heat and drought. Kills and protects against bugs.”

Step 4 - Apply at Labor Day
“Protects and strengthens for a better spring lawn.”

Since Easter has passed, we will now focus on Step 1 of the application, and once the next holiday approaches we will post the next entry dealing with that application.

When the lawn starts getting greener, Step 1 should be applied, which consists of a fertilizer and crabgrass control. The main job of Step 1 is to provide the lawn with nutrients and prevent the growth of crabgrass. Step 1 should be applied to the lawn after a rain by following the directions described on the back of the bag.

We hope that this post will help you get your lawn healthier and leaner. In the next post from this series, we will focus on Step 2 around Memorial Day. If you are in Chicago, we invite you to our
Dom itp - Garden and Hardware Center store. Here you will find all 4 steps for your lawn management.
